STAR MAN Fight through his stage in near-zero gravity, lined with a couple hundred spikes and guarded by missiles, jetpack mets, laser walkers, catapults, and a couple more besides. Star Man himself will activate a rotating shield of three stars, which will protect him from all harm. Then he will throw his shield at you, and this is the opportunity you take to blast him. When you defeat him, you get the Star Crush, a weaker variant of his shield, and Dr. Light's Super Arrow (see Utilities). GRAVITY MAN Whereas Star Man's stage had nearly zero g's, this stage has negative g's: at some points in the level, you will have to walk on the ceiling. And the enemies will too. You won't easily be able to fire at Gravity Man when you reach him, because he'll be on the floor and you'll be on the ceiling. Occasionally he will switch the gravity, but that only gives you a split second--not enough. Use the Star crush and stand almost next to him. When he switches the gravity, you'll hurt him. When you defeat him, he gives you Gravity Hold. This is essentially a "screen bomb" in which everything on the screen takes minimal damage. But the twist is that if anything is killed by this, rather than exploding, they'll fly sraight up into the air! GYRO MAN We're back to normal gravity again. This is an "air stage" where the biggest danger is not the enemies or spikes, but falling off. Gyro Man will first fly into the clouds and then shoot the propeller on his back at you. Use Gravity Hold in five second intervals to make the propellers fly upwards and damage Gyro Man. The weapon you get, Gyro Attack, allows you to shoot propellers like he does. CRYSTAL MAN His level is pretty much a mine. There are several places where you will have to jump over pits while avoiding having a gem dropped on you. Star Crush will protect you during the jump. Crystal man will shoot crystal spheres that break into pieces when they hit something. While he's in the air, fire Gyro Attack shots up when they're under him. Crystal Eye lets you shoot his crystal spheres that split into three smaller spheres when they hit something. NAPALM MAN Weird stage...first it's tropical and above ground, then it's underground...then it moves to an armed forces motif. There is a certain point where there are things that block your path. Blast them with Crystal Eye. Napalm man has two attacks: Launching bombs into the air, and shooting missiles at you. Just keep hitting him with Crystal Eye. When you're done, you'll get his Napalm Bombs, which bounce along the floor until they hit something. STONE MAN His stage is a rock quarry. I don't think I can say too much more. Stone Man jumps around a lot. When he lands, hit him with Napalm Bomb, but not if he's collapsed into a pile of rubble. Power Stone, the weapon you get, isn't that useful. Three stones rotate outwards from your body. They rarely hit anything when I use it. CHARGE MAN The level is on a train. There are enemies galore here. Napalm Bomb will be most useful for the ones on the ground, and Gyro attack will be best for the air enemies. Charge Man will run at you, then slow down if he hits you or a wall. Occasionally he will turn red and whistle, and then three flaming rocks will fall. This is the only good enemy to use Power Stone against. The weapon you get, Charge Kick, is not activated by firing. Rather, when you slide, if you hit something, your slide damages it. WAVE MAN His stage is the only place where you get to ride a jetski in the entire series. And the rest of the stage isn't too interesting. Wave Man has two attacks: shooting a wave of water and firing a harpoon at you. He rarely jumps, so Charge Kick is the best weapon to wipe him out. You get Water Wave from him, which shoots a wave of water along the ground. It will keep going until it leaves the screen or hits higher ground. |
